What is Laser Resurfacing?
With extensive sun damage and/or wrinkling, more assertive laser treatments are required. The SP Dynamis Fotona Erbium Yag Laser uses fully ablative technology to remove multiple layers of damaged skin in a controlled and systematic fashion. As some areas may be more damaged than others, more passes or higher energies may be required to achieve the maximum benefit. This procedure allows us to turn back time and reveal the healthier, younger skin that lies below. At times, only one area of the face requires treatment; such as around the eyes, upper lip or around the mouth. However, frequently we will combine treatments to address the entire face, targeting the most damaged areas first and then blending in the remainder with gentler settings. This is the most effective treatments in permanently removing the signs of aging.
Full Face Resurfacing
Full face resurfacing is the most aggressive procedure to treat extensive wrinkling to the face, but also provides the most dramatic results after only one treatment. This procedure includes both lower eyelid and perioral resurfacing and then continues with resurfacing to the remainder of the face. With extensive damage and wrinkling, several passes are required to remove multiple layers of damaged skin. In less severe cases, higher settings will be used to treat the most damaged areas around the eyes and mouth, and then gentler settings will be used to taper out and blend the remainder of the face. Both oral sedation and local anesthetic blocks are required. Frequently a full-face silon mask will be applied to accelerate the healing process and minimize the pain following the procedure. A minimum of 2 weeks should be expected for full recovery.
Lower Eyelid Resurfacing
With this procedure, we focus on the fine lines and wrinkles that appear around the eyes. Although neuromodulators can effectively target the crows feet lines that are created with movement, they do not address the superficial lines and laxity that appears on the surface of the skin. An internal metal contact lens is inserted and the area is frozen with a local anesthetic, allowing us to safely treat the tissue right up to the lower eyelid margin. The laser systematically removes the damaged skin until the healthy skin below is revealed. Dressings will be applied immediately following the procedure and will remain in place for 72 hours. Redness, swelling and some mild crusting will be present for 7-10 days during the recovery phase.
The area around the mouth is frequently the most telling and unwanted sign of aging. Vertical wrinkles can extend from the upper and lower lip, regardless if there has been a history of smoking. The loss of the sharp edge around the vermillion border of the lip also creates an undesirable appearance and results in bleeding of lipstick when applied. After being frozen with a local anesthetic, the laser first systematically removes damaged layers of tissue around the mouth and then a targeted beam is used to recreate the sharp edge of the lip. Significant swelling and crusting will be present for 10-14 days during the recovery phase.
Skin Resurfacing Results
The results we obtain with this laser procedure are excellent and can erase years of aging and sun damage in only one treatment. However, you must be prepared for up to 2 weeks of downtime for full recovery. In addition, some deeper wrinkles and/or scars may require injectable fillers after the laser procedure to obtain optimal results. Ongoing maintenance with high quality products, regular sunscreen and neuromodulators (such as Botox) will help to maximize and maintain your results.
Our goal is to turn back the clock and reveal your BEST YOU!
